Comfy and great views

Clean and practical for vacation stay. Great views. A little treacherous driving up and down the mountain under snow and icy conditions. Warm fireplace but could use humidifier as the air was very dry. Recommend to add more games, chess pieces to go with the chessboard, and better faster Internet. Overall, a nice place to stay.
Great cabin for a friends ski trip!

Planned a last minute friends ski trip to Snowshoe, so the closer snowshoe rentals on the mountain were already booked. This cabin was awesome with plenty of room for a group of 8 and lots of privacy. A hot tub was a must and this cabin has one. As it was our first time to Snowshoe I didn't really understand the driving situation which was the only thing I didn't care for. This cabin is wayyy up in the woods of a private community. It takes about 10 minutes just to get out of the neighborhood then another 15 or so to get up to the ski resort of Snowshoe. The roads around here are terrible so once we got back to our cabin in the evening we did not want to venture back out at night in the dark. We planned all our meals and packed all our food ahead of time so it worked out. Even with big 4-wheel drive pick up trucks and SUVs we had a hard time getting up the last road to our house as it snowed a lot the weekend we were there and plowing in the neighborhood wasn't consistent. We had a truck go into a ditch and had to call a tow. No vehicles could make it up to our cabin so we had to park in an empty cabin driveway further down and walk up to our cabin and back down to our cars for the rest of the weekend. If you're arriving separately from the rest of your group make sure they know to go to the real estate office to get a map to find their way to the cabin as there is no physical address to put into the GPS (yes they provide you with a hand made map at check in), and no cell service to contact the rest of your group to explain the directions to them. It seemed like a miracle all the members of our group, who arrived separately, found their way to the cabin. Overall, a great private place to stay with beautiful scenery, but not an ideal location if you'll be coming and going a lot.

My husband and I loved the privacy and serenity of A Mountain Retreat. Waking up to songbirds every morning was a joy.

We had a wonderful experience in this house tucked into the woods. Everything was just as advertised. It is not easy to get to and even in good weather, it is good to have a front wheel drive or a four wheel drive, but that makes it all the more private and the scenery all the more natural. You won't see another home once you get there - only mountains and forest. Spectacular view from the front porch or really anywhere on the second floor. Very toasty gas fireplace with radiant heat so there is no smell of gas. Hot tub was always running. Plenty of kitchen utensils as we brought all of our food due to Covid concerns. Very safe and a perfect location to see the Monongahela Forest. Comfortable beds and immaculately clean. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Could've been better

The house itself was pretty cool, it had lots of utensils (most we're dirty), plates, pots and storage with the garage. Unfortunately the place was the 2nd dirtiest place we've ever stayed. The amount of dust and cobwebs shows you how long someone has NOT been cleaning. We should've known better when the woman who checked us in said if we run out of hot water just bath in the jacuzzi and laughed; my wife and i didn't laugh. We called maintenance when we got there and for two days following but no one ever came. When we checked out we expressed our concerns, especially with COVID, and we were polite and sincere with our responses and they clearly didn't care. So sad. We brought Lysol wipes and literally went through them all and half a bottle of Clorox cleaner. Thank god we brought them. The floors look like they haven't been swept in months! Their only response was, and I quote, "well with COVID it's been hard to find cleaning people to clean." We were shocked. We visit a couple times a year and we will definitely look else where. We don't recommend unless management changes.
Beautiful House! Better than photos!

The house was spectacular, i will definitely book again. There is no address so going in the pitch black darkness by the little map provided was no easy task. We got lost, so i would recommend doing it in daylight. Everything in the house was lovely, it was bigger than we needed probably and we had 8 people. Price is right. It was pretty clean except for a huge collection of dead ladybugs in the upstairs bedroom by the vest... HUGE and the sink being clogged with paper towels in the kitchen. Maybe they are just swarming this time of year, dont know much about bugs. Overall its a great stay, with good access to the slopes. very happy.

Great house with plenty of space, a gas fireplace that provides more than just ambiance, and a perfectly located hot tub to take in the scenery of the Western Territory. Just a word to the wise, you will definitely need a more than capable 4x4 vehicle to get to this house. It's a very steep and icy roadway wide enough for one car/truck. I saw other posts mention this before, but you have to experience it for yourself. By the 3rd day, its an easy drive, but when you arrive for your first time, and in the dark of night, it's going to surprise you.

The climb up the mountain is a bit difficult without an SUV or truck, as other renters have noted. The cabin itself is lovely. Spacious and clean. There are ample kitchen utensils and dishes, but no bowls - which is weird. We had brought steaks to grill, but there was no propane. There was also no internet and no TV. We took the empty propane tank to the rental office, and she cheerfully gave us money to get another tank. But it would have been nice to just have that checked and handled before we arrived. At the time of the propane, we said that we really needed the internet to work, and the woman there said she would have her guy check it. But it did not work the entire time we were there, and it did not appear to have been checked again. Other than those issues, it was a lovely cabin, quiet and serene. I'd stay there again if they got the internet working.

Wonderful time, home was clean and had everything we needed. Loved the hot tub and fireplace. Great location, very private. Easy booking, pickup of keys, checking out all quick. Recommend you get groceries on first day and stock up so you don't have to leave! We enjoyed just sitting in nature, reading books, watching movies. Wonderful stay!

Perfect house for a place where you can get away, relax and enjoy time with your close family or friends. Definitely a good escape from the city if you're looking to disconnect, go to the mountains and unwind.

We had an incredible experience! The property was absolutely beautiful, even more than the pictures revealed. We felt very comfortable and had everything we needed. I was glad, however, that our meals were planned out and we had brought food with us because the weather conditions can cause you to hunker down. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we were very grateful to have our roads plowed daily as we arrived during a winter storm and received heavy snowfall during our stay. It truly was a restful, picturesque getaway!

Had a group of 8 staying for a birthday party, and we had a wonderful time. Kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils. I do however wish they had more towels available. I didn't like having to use the same towel for the hot tub and shower.

We have stayed at this property several times over the years. This is the most well stocked vacation home I have ever stayed in. The owners have pretty much thought of everything you need while on vacation. The location is remote and you do need a 4 wheel drive during the winter but it is well worth the drive up the mountain to stay at this property. We will be back again!

We really enjoyed our stay at A Mountain Retreat. The house is gorgeous with a lovely view of surrounding mountains and valley. The star show at night was magnificent, especially when viewed from the hot tub! The house itself was very clean and extremely well stocked - we could have had a feast for the entire mountainside and had service for all. Most certainly coming for a return visit.
